Beam sets are used to carry heavy and large articles safely and with low ground clearance. Normal loads would include transformers, generators and boilers. Beam sets are self loading and unloading and therefore do not require cranes to lift the article being transported. All the beam sets are designed and built by Rex J Andrews P/L.
The beams System is rated to carry 250T as a closed set (shown above) or 200T as an open set with a 5.2m insert. The schematic above shows that as the axle groups increase to carry more weight the available space for high loads decreases as the groups come together. The beams and header assembly can tilt and rise in operation using hydraulic power. The maximum tilt and lift is 6.8 deg and 738mm however when used with the platform trailers the lift can increase to over 1500mm. The beam set is complemented by two header types and three trailer types including mechanical beam suspension trailers and hydraulic suspension platform trailers.
This Beam set is rated at 500T gross capacity as shown. Each equal section is 12 metres between centres, for a total span of 24 or 36 metres. Total width between beams can vary to suit the article being carried. The footprint width of each beam is 600mm
This beam set is used in confined areas. Dimension limits include 15 degree tilt capacity and 47 degree turn angle at each end of the transporter. The transporter is also symmetrical allowing it to be towed from either end. This transporter was built for the confined operating areas at Burrinjuck Dam hydro-electric upgrade
